There are numerous hiking, horseback and biking trails on Indian land and public land all around the city; The Palm Springs tram ride up the mountain is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world-It was opened in September 1963 as a way of getting from the floor of the Coachella Valley almost to the top of San Jacinto Peak! (You will especially appreciate this ride and a picnic when the temperatures in the valley hit 100 degrees as the peak of the mountains are 30 degrees cooler). If you want to venture further, there are several National Parks, the closest, only a 50-minute drive is Joshua Tree National Park, a natural wonder; and Death Valley National Park is not to be missed! You will also not want to miss a spectacular drive to Temecula California, the "other' wine country- with charming and lively wineries and vineyards to visit and sample local varietals a short scenic ride away. The Temecula Valley hosted nearly 2.7 million visitors in 2016 generating more than 700 million in spending, By comparison, Napa Valley welcomed 3.5 million visitors... watch out Napa!
And for shoppers, there's a world class outlet in our backyard, less than 25 minutes east on Interstate 10; The Cabazon outlets are among the nation's best outlets with every conceivable high-end store selling first-rate merchandise at the lowest prices, most in season or a season off. (You'll want to stuff your suitcase here, better yet, buy one at Tumi!).
