The Desert Starr was recently featured in the 2018 Modernism Home Tours as "The Steel Butterfly". Originally designed by William Krisel and built by Alexander Construction Company in 1959, in 2013 it was thoughtfully renovated to maintain its Mid-Century modern flair and style by Joel Dessaules Design, Inc. Bringing the home to the next level with panache and sophistication.  Then, in 2020 the pool and backyard went through another renovation transforming into a backyard paradise where you can truly enjoy the mid-century lifestyle.


 

Situated just minutes from downtown Palm Springs, this charming home has easy access to the airport and freeway, and plenty of areas to walk or bike amidst the renowned Mid-Century architecture that Palm Springs is known for.  Enjoy stunning mountain views from the outdoor spaces on a large 1/4 acre lot that has been completely re-landscaped with citrus trees, desert shrubs, agaves, and cacti, not to mention the 12 palm trees!


 

The private backyard has a large grassy area adjacent to the newly renovated pool featuring a large tanning shelf and spa.  A new feature is a large chip and putting green that flanks the master and guest bedrooms and comes fully stocked with putters, chippers, and golf balls.  The barbecue area features a gas grill, sink, a bar, and seating for guests. The outdoor dining area includes a kitchenette with a refrigerator and fully stocked cabinets for dining al fresco under the stars.  The generous deck offers several seating areas depending on your mood.  In the mood for tanning use the chaise lounges on the tanning shelf.   Want to watch some golf, use the patio chairs near the putting green.  Just wanting to relax, the comfy sofa and chairs next to the pool is the perfect spot for a nap or just relaxing to catch the sunset.  


 

Inside there is a combination of new and period pieces of furniture, rugs, original art, and accent pieces to produce a 1960s feel, but with modern comfort in mind. And for the casual gourmet, the kitchen is well-equipped with superb knives and gadgets, all-new dishes, glassware, and linens, plus so much more!

NO Smoking indoors or outdoors except in designated smoking areas. 100% complaince with Palm Springs Vacation Rental Ordiance 1848 is required for all rentals. NO parties or gatherings are permitted. NO Outdoor Music is permitted 24 hours/ 7 days a week, 365 days a year. NO outside noise 10pm - 8am & Maximum Occupancy of 6 people is strictly enforced by city ordiance. Parking for 3 cars ONLY (1 per bedroom) 3 is maximum permitted cars to park on property or near property. The city will be patrolling and counting cars.

AMAZING

This place was amazing! Every detail taken care of down to sunscreen! We loved the well designed and beautifully decorated house and the out door areas, pool and landscaping were perfect. Close to downtown, just a short drive. We will be booking again!

Great Family Spot

Stayed for a month in January 2022 and loved every minute! Fabulous outdoor living - lovely pool and spa, lots of outdoor seating with 5 outdoor umbrellas so plenty of shade. We had a blast on the putting green too. Home is comfortably and stylishly furnished with good light blocking shades in the bedrooms. Very quiet location. Kitchen was well stocked but could use a couple of new pans with lids- other than that a delightful stay:-)

Lovely Home

The outdoor area for this home is incredible. We loved the pool, hot tub, mini golf, and the lemon tree! It's centrally located, close to downtown Palm Springs and within walking distance to a great park with a playground. Oasis Rentals is quick to respond if you have any issues whatsoever. This is our second stay with Oasis and they are the best!

Outstanding Property and Service

We've stayed at a number of Oasis properties and enjoyed all of them, but the Steel Butterfly might be our new favorite. Yes it has all the tasteful midcentury appointments and well-stocked open kitchen, but the pool and yard really stood out. In the desert heat, we loved the chaise lounges that sit over the shallow pool area and all the shaded lounging areas when we wanted to get out of the sun. Outdoor grills tend to be hit or miss, but this one was excellent, with all the BTUs one needs for legitimate grill marks. We enjoyed taking pool breaks to practice our putting game, and in the evening the blue pool lighting made for a dramatic spa experience. The landscaping afforded total privacy, and I could go on and on about the indoor/outdoor shower and bath off the master.

Service from the Oasis staff was friendly an on point, from initial transaction to greeting, to troubleshooting a technical glitch we experienced after a power surge took down our wi-fi.

All in all, another great stay, and we'll be back.

Amazing Stay & Vacation

This was our first time visiting Palm Springs and what a great introduction to the magic of the area by staying in such a beautiful home, Desert Starr! The home was very clean, fulled stocked and our representative from Oasis Rentals was super helpful and quick to answer any questions we had about the home or area. We highly recommend Desert Starr to groups of friends, families, and families with dogs! We'd love to stay there again on our next visit.

Dream Vacation Home

Desert Starr is a true gem!! The views, the house, the pool and its location are fantastic. The house and its garden/outdoor space are very spacious. We loved the open kitchen/living room area as well as the outdoor hot tub and BBQ station. Good for families or a group of friends -- appreciating luxury, comfort and style. We had an amazing vacation and were able to fully relax. I will definitely come back soon. I can highly recommend the Desert Starr house. Definitely 10 out of 10 points!!!
